The structuralist qualities of this lamp compliment its poetic qualities. The design centers around a pair of plastic shells, once used to protect each bulb within their individual cardboard packages, unfolded and interlocked to safeguard two bulbs instead of one. Otherwise, the materials are reduced to the essentials: lightbulbs, sockets, and electrical wires, with thin stainless steel wire for support. Amongst these formal aspects are two bulbs, permanently locked into position, staring longingly at one another. A small gap in the plastic packaging prevents them from touching: the armor that got them safely to where they are now, is the same material keeping them forever at a slight distance. And like Félix González-Torres's Untitled (Perfect Lovers) artwork, the two LED bulbs will slowly begin to degrade over time, invariably falling out of sync with each other, one ultimately burning out, leaving the remaining to carry on alone.
