Dying Lights (A Pair, Grounded)

00021
A pair of clear incandescent light bulbs delicately bound with thin stainless steel wire to naturally-sourced stones, sat closely together, providing company to each other. The two bulbs are powered by the same electrical source, meaning they turn on as one; the two halves of the lamp cannot be separated, requiring two people to move them. The positioning of the steel wires is an artifact of the unplanned and haphazard process of providing enough tension to permanently affix the bulbs within their stone cradles. Because the bulbs themselves are bound to the stones, this means the bulbs physically cannot be replaced, so when they burn out, the lamp transitions into what it always already was: a sculpture. The lifespan of the sculpture as a lamp is entwined with the lifespan of the bulbs. The light the lamp provides becomes precious.
