A section of ceiling containing a recessed light has been surgically removed, affixed with hanging wires, and repositioned to become a pendant light. The drywall surrounding the light becomes the 'shade' of the lamp, and the previously hidden housing of the recessed light becomes an aesthetic feature.

This light is at least three, related things. It is a diagram, a small cross-section of a room, an illustration of what's typically visible within a room but also what's hidden from view. It's the skin, the muscle, and the guts of a building. Also, it is an emissary for a strategy for architectural reuse. It's an advocate for extracting fixtures once encased within a building and placing them in new spaces. And lastly, it is a migrant, a transfer student, a stranger, an other. It's an object that has been displaced from it's original home and forced to visually and functionally make do in it's new context.
