A discarded chromed steel frame of a chair is fitted with the stone paver brick scraps for the seat and back of a chair. The slabs are bound to the chair frame using annealed steel wire. The chair is not comfortable, it is cold and rigid, but functional if it needs to be. It's not a chair for relaxing, not a chair for resting. It is a form lacking empathy, it is brutal, emotionally austere, sad to witness. The chair is dead. The flat stones recall the ones used to mark the humbler graves within a cemetery. Hoisted onto the disused modernist chrome frame, these stones become more than the seat and backing together, the materials become metaphor. A chair that is a grave, a grave that marks and is made of the ruins of midcentury modernism.
